Signs You Might Have a Mold Problem

With summer just around the corner, we’re in for higher humidity and temperatures. Though you might love the warm weather, your house? Not so much. These conditions are more likely to bring about mold, and if you don’t know what to look out for, it can go unnoticed. We’ve put together a list of things that could indicate a mold problem to look out for this summer.

  1. Visible Stains That Won’t Go Away - It can be hard to distinguish mold from an average dirt stain. If you have staining or speckling on your house that won’t go away from washing it or keeps coming back, it may be mold.

  2. Rotting or Musty Smell - Do you notice a strong smell of something musty or rotting? That can be a surefire sign that your house has mold. If you can’t locate a clear source, you should call a professional.

  3. Excess Moisture - Mold grows where moisture goes. If there are any leaks, flooding, or a buildup of moisture of any kind, there’s a high risk for mold growth.

  4. Allergy or Asthma Symptoms - Some types of mold can cause respiratory issues. If you have allergy or asthma symptoms like a runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, or a cough that won’t go away, you may be exposed to mold.

  5. Warped or Cracking Siding or Walls - If enough water has dripped down from something like a leaking gutter, it can seep beneath the layers of the siding. That then becomes a breeding ground for mold. The same goes for the walls inside. If you notice any warped shaping, cracks, or breakage in your siding or walls, that could be a sign that a mold problem has caused structural damage.
