Three Ways to Ready Your House for Painters

Many customers ask themselves (and us) what they should do to prepare their home for the incoming painters. While we have no issue with moving furniture or prepping the room for work, there are a few things you can do to make your life easier and the painting process go smoother.

  1. Take everything off the walls

Remove all the hanging objects from your walls like pictures, mirrors, and shelving. Find a safe place out of the way of harm to keep them until the job has been completed.

It would also be a good idea to mark the holes that are left in the walls if you would like the objects to go back up by putting a thumbtack or nail in the hole to signify that you don’t want those holes filled. Otherwise, we will fill and repair them.

  2. Move the furniture to the middle of the room

While we will most likely have no problem moving anything, you can move the larger objects to the center of the room leaving as much space as possible between the walls and the furniture so that we can move around as freely as possible.

Also, consider cleaning off your countertops if you are having your kitchen painted. Paper towel holders, Keurigs and toasters are odd objects that can get in the way.

  3. Take down hanging light fixtures

If you have any hanging light fixtures that are going to be replaced after your paint job is complete, now would be a good time to disconnect them. It will make the ceilings much easier to roll coats of paint on when we don’t have to go around them.

There are a few things you definitely don’t need to worry about though. Things like outlet covers, ceiling light covers, and fans are easily worked around or taken off. We will be able to cover the floor with drop cloths and keep your house clean.

We should also mention that this is a good time to replace dead light bulbs and clean dusty light fixtures and vents.

There is really not much required of you when you hire professional painters. These were just three small pointers to make sure the job goes as smoothly as possible and gets done the way that you want. We hope this helps your next project be successful and to your satisfaction!
