Ceiling Painting Game Plan -- How to Renew your Ceiling in Less than 4 Steps

Have you noticed that your ceiling isn’t looking as sleek as it used to? If you look closely, do you see cracks forming in the paint and at the corners? Unfortunately, the ceiling will inevitably need to be repainted.

There’s no judgment here if you’ve been meaning to paint your ceilings for a while but just haven’t yet. Ceiling painting can be difficult and even dangerous. If you do choose to paint your own ceiling, it's good to keep the following steps in mind.

Prep

The first step to repainting your ceilings is always to gather all the supplies. This means you should be sure to prepare all paintbrushes, paint rollers, drop cloths, and painter’s tape. After you have all your supplies together, you should begin to prep the room by removing any furniture, vents, and, light switch covers from the room.

Protect

The next step you should take to paint your ceiling is to put protective measures in place to ensure that the room will not be damaged by any paint. You can do this by using painter’s tape around the edges of the ceiling for a clean finish. Drop cloths are also necessary to avoid any paint spills on your floors or any remaining furniture in the room. It is also a good idea to wear old clothing that you would not mind getting stained -- or if you really want to protect your clothes you can invest in disposable painter’s coveralls.

Paint

Finally, it’s time to paint your ceiling! Be sure to select the right paint -- they sell white ceiling paint at the paint stores so you shouldn’t have to pick out a color. It is made of a specific formula that works much better than your average wall paint. After that, make sure you have paint rollers with extension rods to enable better reach. Then, you are all set to start painting!

Even with these guidelines, ceiling painting can be immensely tricky. When in doubt, it’s always best to call a professional so you can avoid damaging your home or hurting yourself. If you want to know how we can help you on your next painting project, scroll down to get an estimate below.
