Paint Shortage in America!

The inescapable product shortage has been impossible not to notice in recent months with its wide-ranging effect from food to lumber and most hobby-type products that people have been drawn to in the post lockdown era. Well, now the paint industry has also been experiencing serious delays and backorder issues along with many other building materials.

Blamed on the covid-19 shutdowns, “The Great Freeze” that has affected Texas recently, and the Suez Canal blockage…no matter the cause, industries everywhere have been struggling to keep up with demand with backorders ranging from months to indefinitely, and sharp price increases, which reflect the difficulties in keeping the products in stock.

Paint is quickly increasing in price from 9% and higher for the raw materials alone, which will surely be reflected across all product lines for paints, varnishes, and stains. The shipping cost too has been going up and not to mention even obtaining the raw materials like titanium dioxide which is a major component of paint has been reported as near impossible to obtain from China in recent months.

So it should come as no surprise that many product lines in the area have been wiped out of all stores in western New York, leaving consumers to be a little less choosy about which product they end up using for their households. The shortage is even more problematic for larger companies who are familiar with buying paint in bulk amounts of hundreds of gallons at a time leaving many large commercial projects in question.

With supplies slimming down but no dent in demand, we can only hope these issues begin to make increased progress but for the near future, it appears the situation is only worsening.
